The AMA (NSW) Creative Doctors Network (CDN) was created in Oct 2007 to bring together ALL doctors, inclusive of whatever their creative interests, for the purposes of networking, showcasing their artistic work and collaborating on new projects. [Membership]
Every type of medical practitioner is represented, including general practitioners, psychiatrists, physicians, surgeons, paediatricians, obstetricians, anaesthetists, residents, registrars, locums, administrators, academics, professors, retired doctors & medical students.
Within CDN, there is a rich diversity of creative pursuits. Although doctor-writers are the largest sub-group, every art form is represented including music, painting, photography, sculpting, acting, filmmaking, singing, theatre, costume design, textile art & others.
CDN meetings are held at the Conference Centre at the AMA House in St Leonards. Everyone is welcome, including non-AMA Members, partners, medical students and allied health professionals.[Calendar of Events]
Each quarter we focus on a specific creative theme: Readings Night (Feb), Performing Arts Night (May), Film Night (Aug) and Visual Arts Night (Nov). Accompanied by finger food & beverages, these popular social gatherings allow doctors to share stories about their craft. [Creative Themes]
The highlight event for the year is our DOC ART Festival (July) which challenges doctors to submit entries to a set theme in five categories: (1) photos, (2) stories, (3) films (4) performances and (5) visual arts. Submissions are open to interstate & international doctors. Various prizes are awarded by industry judges. [DOC ART Festival 2010]
CDN is guided by a pro-active executive committee, which aims to inspire doctors to tap into their creative souls and as a result achieve a better work-life balance. Our Mission Statement is ‘Nurturing creativity in doctors.’ [Executive Committee]
