AMA (NSW) supports licensing reforms for older drivers |
3 April 2008: AMA (NSW) has commended the reforms to the licensing system for older drivers announced by the NSW Road Minister today.
“The basket of reforms for drivers over 75 years combines concerns for road safety with an acknowledgement of the need for seniors to remain independent.” said AMA (NSW) President Dr Andrew Keegan.
“The decision to establish an Older Drivers Implementation Group will give organisations such as AMA (NSW) an opportunity to work with the RTA to ensure the reforms are working and will provide an avenue to monitor the reforms and make any necessary improvements.
“AMA (NSW) has always supported reforms that protect and promote standards of safety in the community. We believe medical testing and practical driving assessment will provide the necessary reforms that are fair and safe for all members of the community.
