VMO On-Call Survey, The results
On Call commitments have been identified as a key irritant of VMO life. However, as it is also an inevitable part of VMO contracts, we have been attempting to gauge attitudes to on call and the extent of the on call commitment required. We are hoping to work with NSW Health to find better ways to support VMOs with their on call commitments. Please see the next issue of the NSW Doctor for a full report. Rural and Regional VMO Survey
As a result of the survey, AMA (NSW) embarked on a process to amend the VMO contracts for regional doctors to provide enhanced benefits for doctors in regional NSW. To view the results please click here.
VMO Contracts Signed Off
As of 9 October, 2007, months after signing off on VMO contracts with NSW Health, we have finally dragged the revised Determination through the Industrial Relations Commission.
The new Determination will be issued to all VMOs and will, by circular, directly replace the existing Determination. The Determination is one part of your service contract and as such, altering the Determination does not alter your existing contractual relationship with the hospital.

All VMOs should have been receiving the increased payments for some months (except for GWAHS where we recently discovered they could not get the computer program to work – this has caused us great anger as many of the incentives were to have direct bearing on regional VMOs). However, the following additional provisions will now apply:-
New disputes clause
- Cancelled list provisions On call payment during call backs
- Interest for non-payment
- Annual Service Review
- Superannuation
