2008 Starting in Private Practice Workshop

The Starting In Private Practice Workshop is designed for registrars finishing college training and who are about to or have just entered private practice.

Expert presenters provide attendees with presentations on:
-Medicare Australia’s role, account requirements, audits and online claiming.
-Basic financial issues when starting out in your practice.
-Business technology including setting up your practice’s hardware and software in today’s IT environment.
-Contractual issues, practice structures and considerations when buying a practice.
-Medico legal factors in private practice including privacy, handling patient records and subpoenas.
-Medical practitioners’ experiences in setting up their own practices.

The presentations will provide delegates with a brief overview of the “hot” topics in private practice. Participants will also have the chance to speak one-on-one with presenters and other representatives from professional organisations/companies who specialise in assisting medical practitioners.

Explanatory notes

Continuing Professional Education Seminar for Experienced Clinicians
This seminar is recognised by the NSW Medical Board as fulfilling retired practitioners’ annual CPE requirements for medical registration. The weekend course will cover current developments in medical practice, including updates in the treatment of diseases, preventative health and public health issues.

Starting in Private Practice Workshop
A full day seminar covering the most relevant aspects for doctors wanting to branch into private practice for the first time.

DIT Forums
Single topic seminars focusing on interview techniques for doctors in training and medical students.

Golf Events
Events are open to Golf Society members and AMA members.

UNEP Diploma of Practice Management
The Diploma of Practice Management is being presented across two weekends (second set of dates yet to be confirmed) and is for students who have successfully achieved the Certificate IV in Practice Management.  This course is being delivered by UNE Partnerships in conjunction with the Australian Association of Practice Managers and AMA (NSW).  It is anticipated that the Certificate IV course will also be run during 2006.

Workplace Relations and Medico-legal Seminar
This seminar is aimed at doctors and practice managers in private medical practice and provides an extensive overview, with accompanying documentation, on industrial relations, human resources and medico-legal issues for medical practices.  The program offers hands-on information on legal requirements and staff management issues and is a must for managers.
