Objectives as Councillor:
- To make the AMA (NSW) a more effective voice for all branches of the profession
- To achieve rollback in provider number restrictions for junior doctors
- To achieve more flexibility in post-graduate medical training, and
- To support the diversity of medical practices, both in the private and public sectors
Key current appointments and duties:
- Federal AMA Vice President
- Fellow, child and adolescent psychiatry, NSW Institute of Psychiatry
- Senior Fellow in psychiatry at the New Children's Hospital in Westmead, with interests in consultation-liaison psychiatry and neuropsychiatric disorders of childhood
- Member, AMA (NSW) Hospital Practice Committee
- Dr Yong has also served terms as the AMA (NSW) President, the Councillor representing doctors-in-training, and on the NSW Doctors Mental Health Implementation Committee, a body charged by the NSW Health Minister to draw up and implement strategies to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all NSW doctors
- Dr Yong's other interests include skiing, listening to music and reading.
