Objectives as Councillor
The AMA has to constantly remind the health services to provide quality hospitals with sustainable services, to attract doctors and nurses.
The AMA has to also ensure that the various colleges are able to cope with increasing demand for specialists.
The issues we pursue are:
1. Health infrastructure, the provision and maintenance of well-staffed hospitals.
2. Safe working hours for doctors in public hospitals
3. Greater access and communication with the NSW Health Minister
4. The immediate commencement of the PGY2 initiative by NSW Health, as the other states have done
5. Attract and maintain current processionals in the workforce
6. There is a drought of medical services in rural areas, the result of political and bureaucratic ineptitude
7. The waiting list for surgery is again a cause for concern. There seems to be little interest on either side of politics to progress this problem. It has become a ball that both parties roll out at elections. The intent is clear. The politicians would like to blame the profession. The AMA has to continue to lobby government.
