To promote the concerns and values of the AMA. The development of the importance of psychiatry and psychological medicine in the medical profession and population.

Support of private and public practice in psychiatry is important to resist the inroads of "allied" disciplines usurping psychiatry as leader in responsibility for community psychiatric care.
