The AMA (NSW) Council is the umbrella body that represents AMA members across NSW from all metropolitan, rural and regional areas, and from all sectors of the profession, including doctors-in-training, GPs and specialists.
The Council is composed of 11 representatives of specialties, 11 geographical representatives, six representatives in the Unrestricted General Class and one student member. It determines policy through consultation with the membership.
Currently the AMA (NSW) President is Nepean-based Gastroenterologist Dr Andrew Keegan and Vice President is Sydney GP Dr Brian Morton.
The Board of Directors including the President and Vice President were elected in May 2006. They will hold their positions for one year.
Elections for Council were held in May 2007.
