Member Benefits:
AMA (NSW) Action: Over the years, the AMA has achieved a long list of legislative changes and major concessions from both the State and Federal governments as a result of constant and intensive lobbying.
Recent action in NSW has taken the form of medico-political campaigns on the most important health issues identified by members, including:
- Fighting for reform of medical complaints systems, particularly in light of the situation at Macarthur Health Service
- Public hospital funding
- Improvements in rural health
- Medical workforce shortages
Representation:
AMA Members: All medical practitioners are encouraged to join the AMA, regardless of their craft group, employment status or location. AMA (NSW) prides itself on being an effective umbrella organisation and is the only association that represents all doctors, regardless of their specialty. Wherever possible, representation is spread across groups and special consideration is given to the needs of:
- General Practitioners
- Specialists
- Salaried/employed doctors
- Doctors-in-training
Council: Members are represented on the AMA (NSW) Council by 12 special interest groups, including doctors in training, and 11 geographic zones. After input from the greater membership, the Council has final say on policy formation.
